Maricel Soriano started in showbiz as a child star handpicked by no less than Dolphy and Ading Fernando to be John Puruntong's petite and talkative daughter Shirley in the classic hit sitcom John en Marsha.
After 20 years of John en Marsha and some other television projects like Kaluskos Musmos, 2 + 2, Jack en Joey, Kaya ni Mister kaya ni Misis and the spinoff of John en Marsha that became John en Shirley; Maricel Soriano earned one of the most significant titles in the business that only the cream of the crop gets to achieve.
She was named Diamond Star.
Prior to that, Maricel was just Taray Queen. A regal baby turned prodigal daughter and left the peak of her career to join Edu Manzano in marriage. Two years after that marriage, Maricel bounced back with a landmark film, Ikaw Pa Lang ang Minahal and a string of box office hit movies that replaced her Drama Anthology Queen title to become what is known to be forever. A diamond.
True to her title, she has shown the public that her works will live forever.
Maricel shifts gear from drama to action to comedy with so much ease and the audience love it.
In fact, none of her contemporaries share this versatility and none of her contemporaries has amassed 30 acting awards for drama, comedy and even horror movies.
To this day her durability continues. She carried T2 to box office alone making it one of the 100M earners of Star Cinema and a real summer blockbuster besting out its theatrical competition from Hollywood. Florinda, her horror series kicked Survivor, its primetime competition out of the Top 10 primetime programs in the nationwide survey.
She is indeed the most durable star in her generation having done evolution in acting since her childhood days and rising up as a superstar even with her Taray image and even lording it on the endorsements at age 44.
